Test Engineers
Role Description:
Overall the role is to test simulation software used for teaching secondary aged children. A minor subsidiary role is to answer technical support questions by email.
Test involves:
- Understanding specifications (requirements) and writing corresponding tests.
- Executing written tests.
- Adhoc testing focussed on particular areas.
- Reporting defects using defect tracking database.
- Verifying changes and defect fixes by software developers.
- Performance, OS and usability related testing.
- All testers will be paired with a developer with whom they will discuss areas of risk and undertake relevant testing.
Tester Spec:
Need to be studying one of the following subjects towards honours, masters or PhD level at Edinburgh University:
- Chemistry
- Computing
- Electronics
- Other engineering
- Mathematics
- Physics
- PGDE Secondary Education
Personal Qualities:
- Reliable (time-keeping etc)
- Clear communicator
- Methodical
- Logical-problem solver
Employment Terms:
Standard employment contract, plus:
- £6 per hour
- Hours fixed weekly in advance to fit into university timetable
- Up to 15 hours per week during term time
- Holiday work to be negotiated
- Testers to be available a minimum of 8 hours per week during office hours
- 1-week contract notice
