Bunja is a new 'smart toy' from Crocodile Clips, designed to improve children's mathematical and listening skills, as well as taking them on an exciting (and sometimes scary!) adventure in the rainforests of Borneo.
With MP3-quality sound, this screen-less audio toy covers 100 maths topics from English and Welsh and Scottish curricula. It can be used by up to ten different children, remembering the progress made by each one. It can be used with headphones, making it handy for car trips.
The toy poses mathematical questions, and children are rewarded with a section of the interactive rainforest adventure, in which the character 'Sam' has to escape from evil loggers.
As well as boosting maths skills, the game also introduces concepts like biofuels and bio-diversity. Bunja tracks how each child progresses, and then tailors its questions to help them develop the areas they find difficult. It can also generate a report to monitor progress.
Priced around £19.99 from www.bunja.com, Bunja is suitable for children between six and 11.
