Peter Garner writing for Teachers Evaluating Educational Multimedia
July 2002
Crocodile Mathematics is designed to teach 88 Mathematics topics at Key Stages 3 and 4. This useful resource is clearly designed to meet National Curriculum requirements. The first requirement is that pupils should be given opportunities to apply and develop ICT capability through use of ICT Tools to support learning in all subjects. The second requirement is that pupils should be taught to use 'appropriate ICT tools', to solve numerical and graphical problems, to represent and manipulate geometrical configurations and to present and analyse data.
The product consists of 88 interactive demonstrations or models of mathematical concepts. In addition, the classroom teacher will be able to create their own interactive models to demonstrate a very wide range of concepts and examples that would otherwise only be possible using hand-drawn diagrams. The product enables the classroom teacher to introduce the mathematical concept and allows more able students to work directly from the onscreen notes.
The product is quite accessible and fairly easy to master and provides the classroom teacher with access to some 88 interactive models of mathematical concepts within the Key Stage 4 National Curriculum. These models can be readily accessed to demonstrate and teach the various concepts which cover a wide selection from the Key Stage 4 Mathematics Curriculum.
The product enables the teacher to more effectively present these topics rather than simply providing them with a dynamic worksheet.
