Crocodile Clips

Simple Simulation Software

Crocodile Chemistry online training course

This training course offers a comprehensive introduction to using Crocodile Chemistry. It gives you information about how to use each area of the program, and covers a wide range of tips and techniques to help you get the most out of the powerful simulations.

Duration: approximately 50 minutes; course leader: Julie Gray

Getting Started

Shows how to add chemicals to vessels, start chemical reactions and display the reaction equation, label your glassware, heat vessels and measure temperature as well as change the properties of solids, liquids and gaseous chemicals.

Easy, 9 mins 34 secs

Equipment

Shows how to simulate fractional distillation, heat to precise temperatures with an electric heater, filter insoluble solids from liquids, use the information window to show what's in vessels, use pipettes and balances, test for gases and investigate compounds using a flame test.

Easy, 11 mins 1 sec

Reactions

Shows how to simulate a range of other reactions - boiling pure & impure water; precipitation; metal displacement; exothermic & endothermic - as well as change graph axis scales, add graph traces, use the 3D atom viewer and change a solution's concentration.

Easy, 7 mins 25 secs

Rates of Reaction

Shows how to plot graphs of changing amounts of chemicals against time, start two reactions simultaneously, measure the amount of gas evolved in a reaction, change the form of a solid chemical and pause, speed up or slow down the simulation.

Easy/Medium 3 mins 3 secs

Electrolysis

Shows how to add batteries and electrodes, use the information window to look at anode and cathode reactions, change voltages and concentrations, model electroplating experiments and simulate cells using a salt bridge.

Easy/Medium, 6 mins 36 secs

Titrations

Shows how to set up a titration using a burette, change the flow rate of the titration, graph pH against volume added, change the quantity being plotted along the x-axis, titrate weak acids with strong alkalis and watch neutralisations in the 3D Atom Viewer.

Medium, 5 mins 53 secs

Information

Use the information window to see what's happening in your reactions and customise how it is displayed, what information is shown and the accuracy of measurements as well as specify the specific chemical species you want to observe or graph.

Medium/Advanced, 5 mins 56 secs
