Vinay Thawait writing for Teachers Evaluating Educational Multimedia
January 2003
I am very impressed with the software, which gives pupils the chance to access different topics in Physics on a single click of mouse.
After assessing this program, I realised that a lot of research and reading has been done to develop this product. It gives a classroom teacher like me and any others who are interested in the use of ICT in Science - especially Physics - a chance to stimulate, excite and generate more interests in pupils for learning the subject.
Crocodile Physics is the right title for the information given on this CD-ROM and it supports the teaching of Physics at Key Stage 4 within the National Curriculum.
I am sure that if you use this software, you will not be disappointed and you will be able to stimulate pupils' understanding of Physics better and therefore achieve better results.
All learning objectives were met through the use of Crocodile Physics, with many experiments (hands-on-activity).
Initially, I used this software to demonstrate to the whole class how to use it. Small groups of pupils then used it in turns as extension work. Pupils were allowed to explore, predict and conclude the outcomes. For example, if they changed variables in a prepared circuit, simulations with bulbs and motor connected in it. They compared their results with the information available in textbooks.
Before introducing Crocodile Physics, I made sure pupils knew the basic information on electricity, forces and motion and waves, so when they used the simulated programs stored insides the software, they could easily be compared.
Pupils have made electric circuits, calculated the resistance of a wire and many more experiments related to all three topics. I reinforced the topics for better understanding and for revision of the modules.
