FAQs

Licensing

Why has the way I licence the newest Crocodile simulator products changed?

There have been some changes to the way your Crocodile Clips simulator software is licensed. The new system is intended to make the management of your licences easier, by holding all of your licence information in one place.

Each purchase made by your organisation will be accompanied by a serial number, when you register this serial number, your software licence information will be updated.

New bit of text

Once you have registered your site, the process of adding licences is very simple, requiring only the entry of your serial number and a single click.

I have installed my Crocodile simulator software but it is not licensed, how do I do this?

Follow the instructions under the Licensing section of our Installation & Licensing webpage which are appropriate to your situation.

I have my licence code but what do I do with it now?

Follow the instructions under the Licensing section of our Installation & Licensing webpage which are appropriate to your situation.

I have installed and deployed the software on my network using the MSI provided, however it is not licensed on the client machines, what has gone wrong?

You need to licence the software before you deploy it to your clients. To do this, please navigate to the product's root folder on your server, and launch the product by clicking on 'CrocodileX.exe' . Click on the 'Edit Licence' button in the About box and enter your licence details. When you then deploy the software, the software installed on the client machines will already be licenced.

All Crocodile simulators

I am installing your software to a RM CC3 network but I can't find the necessary MSI file?

This is not available directly on the CD. To access this you should run the CD and select "Server Options" then "RM CC3 Server Installation" in the autorun screen that appears. You should then follow the instructions on screen to install the necessary MSI package to your desired location.

Crocodile Physics

Why can't I get simulations from previous versions of Crocodile Physics to work in Crocodile Physics 504 and above?

The many improvements that we have been able to make to the software for version 504 and above mean that unfortunately some files saved in pre 504 versions of Crocodile Physics cannot be opened in this latest version. Electronics models from previous versions of the software can be opened, but other types of model can not. We understand that this might cause some inconvenience, but please note that the new version of the software can be installed alongside older versions so that you can still access older resources by using the older software.

Crocodile Technology

Why can't I get simulations from previous versions of Crocodile Technology to work in Crocodile Technology 410 and above?

The many improvements that we have been able to make to the software for version 410 and above mean that unfortunately some files saved in pre 410 versions of Crocodile Technology cannot be opened in this latest version. Electronics models from previous versions of the software can be opened, but other types of model can not. We understand that this might cause some inconvenience, but please note that the new version of the software can be installed alongside older versions so that you can still access older resources by using the older software.

Why can't I open Crocodile Technology circuits in PCB Wizard any more?

In the past, PCB Wizard could import Crocodile Technology circuits and convert them to PCB layouts. However, the publishers of PCB Wizard have decided not to continue this support for versions of Crocodile Technology past version 305.

As a result, we've decided to develop our own PCB add-on for Crocodile Technology. It's called real-PCB and you can find out more about it on our main website: www.crocodile-clips.com

I want to use a component that isn't currently available in Crocodile Technology. Is there some way I can add my own?

No, however please contact us with your suggestions, so they may be considered for later versions of Crocodile Technology.

Crocodile Chemistry

Why can't I get simulations from previous versions of Crocodile Chemistry to work in Crocodile Chemistry 501 and above?

The many improvements that we have been able to make to the software for version 501 and above mean that unfortunately some files saved in pre 501 versions of Crocodile Chemistry cannot be opened in this latest version. We understand that this might cause some inconvenience, but please note that the new version of the software can be installed alongside older versions so that you can still access older resources by using the older software.

real-PCB

Can I add my own components to the real-PCB library?

real-PCB does not currently have the functionality for users to add their own components to the library. This is something we may consider for future releases depending on the demand. Please do contact us and let us know of any component footprints you require that are not currently in real-PCB as we will add them to our feedback system to be considered for inclusion in future releases.

In the mean time if you really want to be able to create your own component footprints you can purchase Easy PC from Number One Systems which is the industrial package produced by the company who produced real-PCB. In Easy PC you can create your own components and then use them in real-PCB.

What CAD/CAM formats can real-PCB export to?

In real-PCB there is the option to output your design into a range of CAD/CAM formats for use with CNC software. The formats available are Gerber, NC Drill and HP-GL Pen Plot. You can output into any of these formats by going to Tools > CAD/CAM Outputs.

Absorb Courseware

We are having problems running our Absorb software on service pack 2 for XP, can you help?

Window XP Service Pack 2 significantly changes the way web based content is managed. By default it blocks all 'active content'. This includes the JavaScript that is essential for the Absorb products to function. It also adds a rigorous popup blocker which again interferes with the operation of certain aspects of the Absorb products.

There are two main workarounds for these problems:

Solution 1:
Enable active content on the local machine. This will allow any Absorb products installed on the local machine to operate as before.

Steps:
** Before following these steps, read the Service Pack 2 documentation to understand the implications **

- Navigate to 'Start Menu' -> 'Settings' -> 'Control Panel'
- Click on 'Network and Internet Connections'
- Open 'Internet Options'
- Select the Advanced tab
- Scroll to the 'Security' section
- Tick the box 'Allow active content to run in files on My Computer'

Note:
This option may only be available to administrators, depending on the setup of your network and workstations.

Solution 2:
Allow blocked content on a page by page basis using the Information Bar.

Steps:
- When the Information Bar indicates that it has blocked content
- Click on the text 'Click here for options' to the right end of the Information Bar
- Select 'What's the risk?' and read the information provided before continuing
- Select 'Allow Blocked Content'
- In the resulting dialog, indicate that you wish to continue
- The Absorb page should now function as normal

Notes:
This process may need to be performed on several pages:
- the 'Welcome' page displayed when the Absorb shortcut is first opened
- the 'Contents' page
- when viewing a media item in fullscreen mode

This process will need to be repeated every time the software is opened.

Crocodile Clips provides this information to help users who experience problems as a result of installing Windows XP service pack 2, and is not responsible for any consequences of changes to a user's security policy.

I can't get some of the interactive models in my Absorb Courseware to work. When I click on them I get a message saying Windows doesn't know what application to use to open them. What's wrong?

It sounds like it is the Crocodile simulations that you are having difficulty viewing. You cannot interact with these directly in the page (this is different from the Flash animations in the courseware which can be interacted with directly in the page). To interact with simulations you need a special Crocodile viewer which comes with your Absorb Courseware. This must be installed on every computer you wish to view the material on.

It sounds like you do not have this viewer installed on the machines you are using your Absorb Courseware on and this is why you are having problems. To do this, the Crocodile viewer installer can be found in the main Absorb installer. Also, if you do not already have this we can provide an MSI installer for the viewer, please contact us for details. Note: if you have more than one piece of Absorb software a different viewer must be installed for each of them, the appropriate viewer is available on the relevant Absorb CD.
