All Crocodile simulators
Display issues using our software on Windows NT
If you experience any display issues using our software on Windows NT it may help to install service pack 6 and update your graphics drivers.
Updated drivers can be found on your graphic card manufacturer's website.
To identify your graphics card, open the Windows Control Panel, and choose the 'Display Properties' item. In the dialog box that appears, click the 'Settings' tab (normally the right-most tab). At the bottom right corner of the Settings pane is a button labelled 'Advanced...'; click this to open another dialog box.
In the Advanced box is a tab called 'Adapter', click this and information about your graphics card will be displayed. The important pieces of information are the Manufacturer and the Chipset. Common manufacturers are Intel, ATI, Matrox and nVidia. The chipset number or name will be useful for finding drivers on the manufacturer's website. (The model name is sometimes also displayed as the first line in the Adapter tab).
The safest way to find drivers is to search for the manufacturer's website (some are listed below), and then look for a 'downloads', 'drivers' or 'support' section of the site. Depending on the site you can then search based on your graphics card's model number and download the driver files. The manufacturer's site should include instruction on how to install the files - normally the download is simply an installer you can run.

Mac cursor graphic behaviour
[read more...]
For some users of MacOS X 10.2, 10.3 and 10.4, the cursor graphic
may randomly display a white background instead of a transparent
background. This does not affect the overall use of the program
in any way, and a fix for this is planned.
Crocodile Physics

The example file called 'Newton's third law of motion' in Crocodile Physics 504 is incorrect.
We have now produced a correct replacement file. You can download this file from here. Please copy this over the old file in your installed software, which by default is installed at: C:\Program Files\Crocodile Clips\Crocodile Physics 504\product\Examples\Motion & Forces\Motion\Newton's laws\. Once the file is replaced when the software is run again the correct file should appear when you click on the 'Newton's third law of motion' example.
Crocodile Physics 401: problem with fit button on graph
Application sometimes crashes when fit button on graph is clicked.
We have identified the following problem with Crocodile Physics v401 whereby under certain circumstances, users may find that pressing the fit button whilst drawing a graph causes the software to crash. This problem will only occur when:
- The data currently collected does not fit on the graph and
- The graph is selected so its control pane is visible, then
- A part in the simulation is selected and (whilst its still selected) the fit button is pressed
To avoid this happening simply click anywhere in the graph window before pressing the fit button.

On your computer go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display and select the Appearance Tab. Then under Colour Scheme select the 'Default (Blue)' option..
Crocodile Mathematics: trigonometric axes
Problems with panning or zooming axes.
When using the trig axes in the graph part, some users find that panning or zooming the axes causes the increments of 90 to change to increments of 100 - unsuitable for trig work.
To avoid this, switch automatic divisions off before you start panning or zooming (in the Axes tab of the graph part side pane).
Crocodile Mathematics: text box problems
Several minor issues with text boxes.
Under certain circumstances use of the text box in Crocodile Mathematics v401 can cause the programme to freeze. Risk of this occurring can be minimised by avoiding circumstances where the text box scroll bar appears. To these ends, it is best to enlarge the text box (using the circular points on its frame) before the amount of text you are typing 'overflows' causing the scroll bar to appear.
Manipulating a text box in a file saved in a previous version of Crocodile Mathematics may cause the application to freeze. Solution: Open the file in Crocodile Mathematics 1.3 (or the version in which you first saved the file). Enlarge the text box so that it contains plenty of extra room. Save the file. Opening the file and manipulating the text box in Crocodile Mathematics v401 should no longer cause a freeze.
Font type and size may be reported wrongly. Fonts and text size can be changed and saved, but the state of text may not be correctly reported in the text box control pane. This should not cause a crash.
Text may flow outwith the text box. This can happen for a number of reasons including use of a mouse scroll wheel while the text box is selected. Under these circumstances the application may freeze. It is recommended that in the event of text appearing outside the text box you immediately use the main application scroll bar, on the right hand side of the Crocodile Mathematics window, to position the text box more centrally in the mathspace. Then deselect the text box (by clicking away from it).
Crocodile Mathematics: unknown angle symbols
A question mark or empty square may be displayed in place of an angle mark, due to a missing language library.
You will need to install an appropriate language library.
PC: Win 98,ME,2000
Go to Control Panel->Regional Options. Under the General tab, in the 'Language Settings for the System' section, check any language that is composed of non-European characters. Click OK to install these libraries.(You made need your original Windows installation CDs.)
PC: Win XP
Go to Control Panel->Regional and Language Options. Click on the Language tab to view the contents of the Language pane. Tick the 'Install files for East Asian languages' option. If necessary, confirm that you wish to install these added files and then click OK.
Crocodile Mathematics: setting internal angles
Internal angles cannot be set using connections.
Internal angles can be read, but not set through connections.
Examples: If, therefore, a number part is connected up to an internal angle, the number can only report the value of the angle: the number part itself cannot alter (i.e. 'set') the internal angle. Likewise, if you connect an internal angle of shape 1 to the orientation of shape 2, a change to the internal angle will alter the orientation of shape 2. You will not, however be able to alter (i.e. 'set') the internal angle by altering the orientation of shape 2.
This behaviour is reflected by the uni-directional arrows representing such connections.
Absorb Courseware
Printing issue
There is a known issue with Internet Explorer 5.0 whereby when you print an Absorb unit rather than the whole document printing the first page just prints out over and over again.
If this is the problem you are having then the only solution at present is to upgrade to IE5.5 or above on any machine you wish to print our courseware from. Please find a link to Microsoft's free upgrade to IE6 below:
